A little history –

The Friends of the Theosophical Society – Adyar is both an old and a new concept. Back in 1950, the American Section of the Theosophical Society created and maintained an entity they called “The TS in Adyar” they considered it as a kind of branch of the American Section although it never functioned as such. We don’t know who or what caused it to be created or how active it was in the beginning as those records have been lost. Somewhere along the line, it became inactive and has lain doormat for nearly 70 years. Newly rediscovered, the concept has been reborn as the Friends of the Theosophical Society – Adyar. It is now a completely separate entity registered as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Illinois in the USA. An application for federal nonprofit tax status in the USA is in progress.

The Mission of The TS

The Theosophical Society endeavors to promote spiritual growth, universal brotherhood, and the pursuit of truth. Established in the late 19th century, it continues to inspire individuals worldwide to seek higher understanding and compassionate service based on ancient wisdom and modern insights.

History of the TS

Founded in 1875 in New York City, the Theosophical Society has played a pivotal role in modern spiritual movements. Its founders aimed to explore esoteric philosophies, foster intercultural understanding, and advance the study of mystical sciences, laying the groundwork for many contemporary spiritual and philosophical traditions.

Projects

At the International Headquarters in Adyar, the Society supports initiatives such as educational programs, library conservation, community outreach, animal care, and cultural preservation. Donations help fund these projects, promoting the Society’s goals of spiritual development and humanitarian service.
